Moses said to the Lord, “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things, appoint someone over this community to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.” Numbers 27:15-17
The world witnessed last week the peaceful transfer of power from the sitting US president to the newly elected US president. Although there were those who protested, the protests did not change the fact that a new president was elected and ceremoniously inaugurated. Regardless what party-lines may divide us in our thinking and beliefs, we witnessed the extraordinary.
So what can we do to bolster the healing needed in this country? First, we can pray for our leaders. We can open our hearts and minds to God’s transforming power. We can love more and hate less. We can share more and take less. We can be an instrument of peace instead of an instrument of discord. We can be God’s people, made in his image and for his glory.
Prayer: God of hope and transformation, I pray for those who lead our country. May they walk in your light, may they listen to your voice, and may they be instruments of your peace. In your most holy name, Amen.
