Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.  So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” John 20:1-2

Imagine the surprise when the tomb was empty! How could that be? Where had the soldiers taken Jesus? The disciples shouldn’t have been surprised. After all, Jesus had told them what would happen. But they didn’t understand. Many thought the crucifixion was the end of the story. But with God, there is always more to the story.

And aren’t we glad. The resurrection is still pertinent for us today. The resurrection is not just about a physical restoration, it is about a spiritual rebirth. It is about a power so commanding that it can raise our broken lives out of the ashes into the light of second chances. The resurrection gives us hope…hope for a better tomorrow, hope for the impossible to happen, and hope that there is always more to God’s story.

Prayer:  Resurrecting God, your power is unequal to any power in this world. With your power in my life, I can persevere and overcome any struggle or heartache. I am humbled by your love for me. Amen.
