“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
At the end of the Last Supper Discourse, Jesus reaffirms to his disciples that his peace is mightier than any trouble they might experience. The disciples would soon leave the world they knew to spread the “good news” to people of all nations. Their journey would be difficult and filled with many setbacks and disappointments. But the peace that would fill their hearts would help them overcome their adversities.
That same peace is available to us in the midst of the struggles of our daily lives. Through prayer and meditation, we strengthen our faith. And when we do, a peace beyond our understanding fills our spirits so that we can overcome whatever life throws our way.
Prayer: Holy God, empower me to meet the challenges in my life. Fill my heart and mind with your peace. Amen.
