For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6
During creation as explained in the first chapter of Genesis, we know that God called forth light and separated it from darkness. We also know God saw that everything was good. In the Gospel of John, we learn that the Word (Jesus) was with God in the beginning and through him everything was formed. We can determine, therefore, that the Word is the very essence of light, goodness, and beauty.
When Jesus was born into the world, it was a message to all mankind of God’s love for his creation. God loved us enough to come to us in the flesh, to walk with us through life’s difficulties, to lift us up when we are downtrodden, and to create within us a desire for change.
Thousands of years have passed since the creation of the universe, but the light that God created in the beginning is still vibrant today. More than two thousand years ago, God in the flesh was born. He came to shine his eternal light for all mankind. He came to teach us the truth. He came to show us his love in the midst of life’s messiness and chaos. And as we end another year, let us remember that most of all, God came to release our spirits so that we can live fully and unafraid.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory… (Heb. 1:3)
