As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. Luke 8:23-24
Peace is not always easy to find during a normal, busy day. Even if we start the day with some type of quiet time to contemplate and energize, any disruption can take our serenity in a flash. A phone call concerning a loved one, an extra project at work, or losing a cell phone or car keys can take us from peacefulness to immediate panic and fear.
So what do we do? Take a breath and regain the power that flows through us—God’s power. His power calmed the storm and it certainly can calm our chaotic thoughts and flustered emotions. If we are to be a calming force in the world, we must first find peace within ourselves.
Prayer: Holy God of power and peace, calm my thoughts and my emotions. Help to find solutions of peace in all circumstances. Amen.
