While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.  Acts 7:59-60

After Jesus’ resurrection and ascension, the disciples began their mission of carrying the message of faith in the risen Lord. Many, like Stephen, were stoned. Others were imprisoned, beheaded, or crucified. It was not an easy task to stand up for their faith especially if at any moment their lives might end.

But the disciples persisted in spreading the Good News. They had traveled with Jesus. They believed in what he preached and taught. And most importantly, they saw Jesus pray and knew that prayer had strengthened him to fulfill his purpose.  They now had a purpose…to tell the story. And through their faith and perseverance, the story is still told today.

Prayer:  Almighty God, empower me to be faithful even in times when life is difficult and people disbelieve. Empower me to tell your story to those who are searching for a Savior. Amen.
