They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the king of Israel!” John 12:13

Today is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week in the Christian calendar. The scripture above describes Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem. Many people celebrated his arrival even if they were surprised that he was riding on a donkey. Not a fitting entry for a king!

But Jesus didn’t come to be a king by the world’s standards; he came to the King…Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace. In Jesus’ kingdom, there are no need of armies and no need for war. There is only need for humble service and love for your fellowman.

Prayer:  Almighty God, King of your people of faith, open our minds and hearts to the good news of your Kingdom. Empower us with humility, service, and love in your name. Amen.
