Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. John 11 25-26

A loss of a loved one can be unbearable. We miss the presence of the person at family dinners, or holiday celebrations, or in just a casual telephone conversation. Death ushers in all kinds of emotional responses, doubts, and memories that can be difficult to resolve, and we learn firsthand that grief is a difficult process.

Mary was full of grief about the death of her brother, Lazarus. If Jesus had only come sooner, he could have saved Lazarus. If only…we’ve all been there. But we can find peace even in loss and heartache because death is never the end of the story. The incarnate God said “Take off the grave clothes and let him go” (v 44).

Prayer:  Almighty God, strengthen my belief in your resurrecting power that brings fear to faith, sin to redemption, and death to life. Amen.
